Pet Planet is the Irish distributor for Salters Pet Nutrition - a veterinary formulated premium dry dog food. Salters only use the most wholesome, pure and natural ingredients, with no artificial preservatives, colours or flavours in it's pet food range. We believe Salters is the only veterinary formulated dog food to contain extra virgin olive oil. The chicken and rice used is normally destined for our own plates.

Approximately 9 years ago Stephen Salter decided to start Salters and produce what he felt would be the highest quality dry complete veterinary formulated food for dogs. With many different foods, both wet and dry in the already over saturated market place, how could he make a difference?
Quality was the only way to go, so he researched all various ingredients and with the help of his nutritional people and vets put together an extremely high quality range of dog foods, packaged in four life stages. Salters and their veterinary surgeons set out to trial the products on as many different types of dogs as possible.

Following very sccessful trials, Salters was launched into the market place and received a great response from the dog owning public. It was obvious that with current understanding of our human health needs that people have also become very much more aware of their dogs' health and indeed of what they may be feeding their dogs.

The ingredient base in Salters consists of such things as extra virgin olive oil and fresh chicken (with Stephen's meat product background he was able to select out all of the material he did not want to use and increase extra leg and breast meats). Salters use Italian round grain rice which again we would buy to eat ourselves. The balance of the ingredients have also been carefully selected and sourced from foods fit for human consumption, with no artificial preservatives – only natural preservatives are used. No colourants or flavour enhancers are added – there is no need.

Gut Problems
Because of Salters very high quality ingredient base the food is extremely gentle on the dogs digestive system especially for those suffering with gut problems.

Skin Problems
Where skin problems were occurring they have lessened or in most cases disappeared after feeding Salter's dog food.

Temperament Problems
Because Salters don’t use the chemicals that may irritate dogs systems, causing temperament problems, the food has been found to be of a very calming nature and therefore recommended by many behavioural trainers.
